about
Here we go again...
With this release, Liberty Hall Collective takes its’ first studio step after releasing their inaugural album, Harmonica Sounds. “Clever One” is perhaps LHC’s most surprising song yet, starting as a simple, light piece of folk pop and veering into at least 3 other forms until the song’s end. Composed by Brett Pongratz, the song explores the protagonist’s desire for Molly, a character similar to Dylan’s Johanna- the perfect ideal woman who seems perpetually out of reach. The end of the song represents the racing thoughts of love as beautifully and overwhelmingly as love itself. The ending chant is sure to be a staple of the LHC live experience, and on this recording several friends of the band provide an excellent choir of ragged voices. “Clever One” is truly an experience from start to finish.
This song marks an exciting new era for Liberty Hall Collective, one marked by a mix of songwriting sophistication, eclectic and exciting arrangements, and the upbeat power pop that has always been at the heart of the band. As summer comes into view, “Clever One” is truly but a hint of the beautiful weather ahead.
lyrics
Here we go again
Molly wants to dance
and I don't think there's anything wrong with that
Here we go again
Don't look back she says
you know they just want you broken undertow
Molly's a clever one
She knows just what to say to make me lose control
She's so damn special someday I'll let you know
I would bet if you could count her lucky stars she'd have enough to fill the sky a second time
wouldn't it be grand if she were mine
Molly won't you stay the night
Spring is here again
She's stuck in my head
I find it kind of cute but also annoying
Molly take my hand
please understand
that I'm in love and I can't live without you
Molly's a clever one
She knows just what to say to make me lose control
She's so damn special someday Ill let you know
I would bet if you could count her lucky stars she'd have enough to fill the sky a second time
wouldn't it be grand if she were mine
Molly won't you stay the night
I'm falling in love and I cant get out, I don't want to get out this time
Molly's a clever one she knows just what to say to make me lose control
Count your lucky stars
she is a clever one
I'm falling in love and I can't get out
